MEET MIKE

A dedicated and results-oriented individual, Mike has overcome adversity throughout his life. From a young age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic, helping his parents tend to their garden in Montenegro. By age twelve, he was responsible for cutting and transporting firewood to the city, a physically demanding task that provided crucial income for his family.

Growing up in poverty, Mike and his three siblings faced numerous challenges. Simple pleasures like bread and butter were rare luxuries. Despite these hardships, he maintained a positive outlook and found joy in playing soccer with friends.

In 1974, Mike and his family immigrated to Staten Island, New York. Despite language barriers, he excelled academically, graduating from Curtis High School in just three years and earning an Academic Diploma and a Merit Award. He continued his education at the College of Staten Island, graduating in the top ten percent with a degree in Political Science.

Mike married his wife, Sibe, in 1980 and raised four successful children.

In 2001, he unofficially ran for Mayor of New York City, gaining significant support from various community leaders and members of the public. His platform focused on improving quality of life for future generations.

In a recommendation letter to Brooklyn College, Graduate Division, Professor Daniel C. Kramer wrote: "Mr. Pelinkovic can accomplish anything that he sets his mind to”.

And with your help... ACCOMPLISH WE WILL!

POLICIES

Let’s fall in love with NYC again!

I will increase citizen accountability by eliminating alternate side parking regulations and implementing strict enforcement of anti-litter laws. Property owners and businesses will be responsible for maintaining their sidewalks and curbs, which will free up city resources while eliminating the inconvenience of parking restrictions and associated fines. To transform our streetscape, we will remove all parking meters throughout New York City, making parking free, and replace these meters with trees to enhance our urban environment.

Support New York’s Youth

I propose offering first-time offenders an alternative path through trade school education rather than continuing through the criminal justice system, embracing the principle that education is more effective than punishment. Additionally, we will establish free walk-in mental health facilities for uninsured residents, which will help reduce crime and drug use while ultimately freeing up valuable city resources for other essential services.

Improving the operations of NYPD

We will strengthen accountability for officers who violate civil rights laws, which will help reduce the $250 million spent annually on civil lawsuits. The money saved will be reinvested into the NYPD to enhance training programs and increase base salaries to better align with community expectations. This approach aims to improve both police conduct and department resources.

Improving the flow of Traffic

To reduce the time our citizens spend stuck in traffic and increase their family time, we will implement several key traffic flow improvements. We will synchronize all traffic lights to operate sequentially and permit right turns on red lights throughout the city. We will strictly enforce penalties against box blocking and increase speed limits by 5 mph across our roadways. All roadwork will be carefully coordinated and clearly communicated to minimize unnecessary lane closures and prevent additional traffic congestion.

Bridge & Tunnel Optimization

To improve traffic flow across Brooklyn's bridges and tunnels, we plan to transform 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn into a freeway by removing all traffic lights. We will implement strict enforcement against 18-wheeler trucks during weekday business hours from 6 AM to 6 PM, with fines issued to any slow-moving vehicles that impede traffic flow.

To provide alternative transportation options and reduce cross-borough traffic, I propose establishing new ferry services such as the South Shore of Staten Island to Manhattan, as well as Brooklyn to Midtown Manhattan.

Modernizing our HOV policy

I propose reforming the HOV lane system by removing all physical barricades and reducing the passenger requirement from 3 occupants to 2. Additionally, we will enforce strict right-lane-only restrictions for trucks, which will help maintain smoother traffic flow in other lanes for city residents. These changes aim to optimize our highway system and improve commuting efficiency for New York City drivers.
